Current Update
Answers to your Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
In most cases answers are easier to come by than you may think. Below, you will find answers to your most frequently asked questions.
You will need an Internet connection to download and activate your version of phase-6.
However, an Internet connection is not required to use the program.
After placing your order, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with an attached PDF-invoice. The subject of this e-mail will be: “Receipt of payment”.
The invoice contains a 20-digit activation key in the following format: xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx.
In order to activate the trial version just copy-paste this code into the window which previously notified you about the remaining time of the trial period.
You will need to be connected to the Internet when activating
phase-6. After successful activation you may use the program without an Internet
connection.
The activation key will be listed on your invoice which you should have received by email after purchasing the full version of phase-6.
A sample 20-digit activation key can be viewed by clicking here: Find Activation-Key
Generally, it is easiest to use phase-6 on a computer that is connected to the Internet:
- For updates / upgrades
- To download and integrate content files
- To activate your download version
If you intend to use phase-6 on a computer without access to the Internet, you will have to download the setup file as well as any content files you may want to integrate on another computer with Internet access and you can then transfer these files via a flash drive, or by burning them to a CD.
If you have no access to the Internet, you can activate your download version manually by
clicking on
https://support.securom.com/PAunlock/?c=1000.
First, enter your 20-digit activation key. Second, find and enter into the appropriate text
box your 45-digit access code which appears in the grey textbox after the first attempt to activate
phase-6 fails due to the system not finding an internet connection. Finally, enter the security
code which should be displayed right above the grey textbox. Click on “Generate Unlock Code”.
As a last step, you will receive a newly generated (longer) activation key. This key can now be
used to activate your download version.
In order to update to the most current version of phase-6, just click on Update Service, which will redirect you to the appropriate part of our website. Then follow the instructions.
Alternatively, you can update while using

Please follow these steps to solve the problem:
1. Exit phase-6.
2.1 Windows 2000 / Windows XP:
2.1.1 Click on (Windows-)”Start”. Then click on “Run…”.
2.1.2 Enter “%allusersprofile%\application data” and click on “OK”.
2.2 Windows Vista:

Rename these files to “config.xml.alt” and “server.xml.alt”, respectively.
4. You should now be able to start phase-6 v2.1 without encountering any problems.
In order to do a backup of your (or all users´) files, click on “Extras” after having logged in. Click on “Backup” and “Me” (or “All”). Next, specify where on your hard drive you would like to save your files. E.g. you could create a new folder.
The backup file will be saved as “phase-6-backpack-USER-YYYY_MM_DD.p6b”.
USER = your current user name
YYYY_MM_DD = date when the backup file was created, e.g. 2008_10_25.
To re-import the backup file later, start phase-6 and do the following: Click on “Extras” and “
Restore” (“Me” or “All”).
We highly recommend that you regularly (at least once a week) do back-ups of the phase-6 database. As with any other data stored on your computer, this is the only way of ensuring that the content will not be lost if your system crashes or your hard drive is damaged. At all times backups can be re-imported into the system.
phase-6 will remind you when backups are recommended or necessary after you logged in with
your user name and password.
phase-6 version 2.1 has no limitations whatsoever: The number of characters within the question / answer as well as the total number of flashcards you can enter is unrestricted.
Words or items that have already been entered in the demo / trial version will automatically be transferred and loaded into your new phase-6 version.
Please click here to download the free trial version.
You may use the free trial version for a period of 20 days. After the trial period has expired
you will be given the option to purchase the full version. The activation key is listed in the
PDF-invoice issued upon purchase.
The only and easiest way is to order phase-6 through our website. You will either need a credit card, a debit card, or a Paypal account. After placing your order, you will receive a confirmation email with your activation key.
If you forgot your password, click on “Forgot Password” on the login screen. A new window will open and direct you to the “Administration” screen where you can reset your password.
Note:
You need to have phase-6 administrator rights to perform this step. If you are not the user registered as administrator, the one user that does have these rights can reset your password for you.
phase-6 version 2.1 is based on Unicode and therefore supports any language, sign, or symbol (e.g. Chinese or Arabic).
If you wish to study a language with a non-Latin alphabet, such as Greek or Russian, we recommend that you switch to the respective keyboard layout when entering new words.
To change the keyboard layouts in Windows, open the Control Panel and change your regional
settings.
While we generally do not recommend it, you can override the phase-6 system of repetition if you need to study a subset of your flashcards to prepare for a specific test or exam.
After logging in, go to the Practice Screen and click on “Configure”. Change the settings and filters to practice only those items that will come up in your test.
Note:
We do not recommend using this feature too often as it opposes the principles of long-term
learning. Overriding the system of phased repetition is valuable only when studying a specific
subset of your content for an exam or a test.
